The United boss handed Rashford a hand-written tactical note, presumably to pass on the information to his teammates.
However, the 21-year-old striker dropped it outside the Barcelona penalty area which, it turned out, wasn’t a particularly smart place to discard it.
Barça goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen couldn’t resist the temptation of reading the note – and who can blame him?
Watch it here…
But what did the note have on it?
Well, it shows that Solskjaer wanted his players in a 4-4-2 formation, rather than the 4-3-1-2 his side initially started the game with.
Although the video quality isn’t great, it’s understood that the note reads: Vic (Victor Lindelof), Chris (Chris Smalling), Jones (Phil Jones), Ash (Ashley Young); Jesse (Jesse Lingard), Scott (Scott McTominay), Fred, Paul (Paul Pogba); Rash (Marcus Rashford), Anthony (Anthony Martial).
You have to be more careful in future, Marcus!
Unfortunately for Solskjaer, his late tactical switch failed to have any sort of impact, as Barça booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals with a comfortable victory.
